Overview

Google AI Pro is the paid tier of the same Gemini for Education that every ASU account already gets at no cost. It is not a separate product, and requesting it does not change how you use Gemini at gemini.google.com. The free tier already covers the Gemini app, Deep Research, Canvas, and Gemini Notebook at standard limits. What it does not cover is Gemini inside the Workspace apps: on the free tier that integration is limited to Workspace Studio and Classroom, so there is no Gemini panel in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, or Meet. Google AI Pro adds exactly that. You get Gemini in the side panel of Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Meet, Vids, Forms, and Chat, AI notetaking and summaries in Meet, roughly five times the Gemini Notebook limits (notebooks, chat queries, sources per notebook, audio and video overviews, infographics, and slide decks), and access to Google's premium models. Licenses are funded by your unit and need supervisor or business operations manager approval, so this is a budget conversation before it is a ServiceNow ticket. The feature list above is Google's description of the tier. ASU's own page is the authority on exactly what gets provisioned here.

Teaching uses

Featured ways to use this tool

01
Draft and rewrite without leaving the document
Open the Gemini side panel while you are already in the file and ask it to tighten a paragraph, shift the tone, or turn bullets into prose. Example: highlight a dense policy paragraph in a student-facing doc and ask for a plain-English rewrite at an eighth-grade reading level.
02
Catch up on a long email thread
Gemini in Gmail summarizes a thread and drafts a reply in your voice. Example: come back from PTO to a 30-message thread about a launch date and get the decisions, the one open question, and a draft response in a single pass.
03
Build a first-draft deck from a document
Point Gemini in Slides at an existing brief and have it generate a starting deck with headings, speaker notes, and imagery. Example: turn a two-page program one-pager into a six-slide stakeholder update you edit rather than build from scratch.
04
Take notes in Meet so nobody has to
Gemini captures notes and action items during a Meet call and drops the summary into Drive. Example: run a discovery session with a partner team and leave with a shared summary instead of one person typing the whole time.
