Overview

Slack Workflow Builder is a no-code automation tool built into the Slack you already use every day at ASU. It lets you set up simple "when this happens, do that" routines, like posting a welcome message when someone joins a channel or collecting requests through a form, without writing any code or installing anything. Because ASU runs Slack on an enterprise plan, Workflow Builder is already included; you just open the Tools (or Automations) menu in Slack and start building. For EdPlus teams, it is an easy first step into automation: it removes small repetitive chores from your day using a tool you are already logged into.

Teaching uses

Featured ways to use this tool

01
Automate channel onboarding
Set a workflow to greet every new member of a team channel with a canned message linking key docs, norms, and who to ask for what. New EdPlus hires or project collaborators get oriented instantly without anyone repeating themselves.
02
Turn requests into structured forms
Replace ad-hoc DMs with a form workflow: a designer’s channel can collect creative requests (project name, due date, assets link) and post them in a consistent format, or route them to a specific person for triage.
03
Schedule recurring team check-ins
Post an automatic Monday prompt asking everyone to share their top priorities, or a Friday thread collecting wins for the team lead’s weekly report. The workflow runs on a schedule so no one has to remember.
04
Trigger actions from emoji reactions
Set an emoji like a checkmark or ticket icon to kick off a workflow — for example, reacting to a bug report message automatically sends the details to a triage form or notifies the on-call engineer.
